I want to share with my readers an interesting letter which I received recently from an very dear friend who had just taken an exciting weekend trip.

Dear Mr. Moyey,

This weekend when my husband and I were en route across Pennsylvania visiting the fabulous Frank Lloyd Wright house at Falling Water, and moving on to Willoughby Ohio where we had reserved a two night's stay in the beautiful Penfield House, when we found a beautiful bed-and-breakfast in Connellsville Pennsylvania called the Newmyer House. Chef Mike Edwards prepared us the most fabulous meal, and I must say that this meal was among the best I've ever eaten anywhere in the world. At less than $70 per person it's quite a bargain, and the quality of the food is superb.

A special advantage is that it provides a wonderful opportunity to drink the best wine in a restaurant setting. Chef Edwards does not serve wine, but rather provided us with a delightful bottle of sparkling grape juice. But the best part is that he allows people to bring their own wine, and so I'm hoping that you will be able to help me plan a wine selection so that we can return and order the same meal in the future. Here's the menu we were served:

To Begin:

Olive-Walnut Bread and Spiced Pita Crisps Served With Lemon-Thyme Olive Oil, Goat Cheese Mousse and Hummus

First Course:

Summer Rolls (Not Spring Rolls) With Poached Shrimp, Julienned Vegetables and Fresh Herbs with Apricot Dijon and Ponzu Dipping Sauces

Intermezzo:

Spiced “Lemonade” Sorbet

Entrée:

Grilled Breast of Chicken in a Chipotle-Lime Sauce with Tropical Fruit Salsa made of Pineapple, Mango, and Roasted Jalapeno Chilies

A Vegetable Medley with Thyme Butter

Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Sun-Dried Tomato Semolina Bread

Salad course:

Italian Caesar Salad made with Romaine, Basil and Homegrown Wild Italian Arugula

Shaved Parmesan Cheese

Rosemary-Sea Salt Focaccia Croutons

Dessert Course:

A Summer Sampler of Three Wonderful Desserts:

Cherry Cobbler with Almond Crumb Topping
